Especially So (GB)
2015 brown filly by So You Think (NZ) ex Behra (Ire) (Grand Lodge (USA))
Bred by Bob Russell at the Blyth Park Stud farm in Appleby Magna, Especially So is a daughter of Top Sire So You Think.
This filly has made a promising start to start to her racing career. She debuted in the autumn of 2018 (NH Flat race over an extended 1m7f on good ground) finishing a creditable fourth. She followed this up with further improvement to finish fourth again at Warwick over 1m6f. On her final start, she encountered soft ground and this, along with her first two races in quick succession was one race too much for the youngster. She was then turned away for a well earnt rest and given the opportunity to mature, strengthen and grow into herself.
The form of her three races to-date stands up well with the fifth in her debut race, the third and eleventh in her second race and the fourth in her final race all winning since.
If the promise already shown on the track wasn’t enough, ESPECIALLY SO has a royal pedigree to die for. Her dam BEHRA was owned by HH Aga Khan and trained by Sir Michael Stoute. She was the winner of one race over 1m2f as a 3-year-old and placed all her other 3 starts.
Her second dam BEHERA was CHAMPION 3-YEAR-OLD FILLY IN EUROPE (1989) and won the Group 1 Prix Saint-Alary at Longchamp, runner up twice in the Group 1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and fourth in the Breeder’s Cup Turf (Grade 1).
BEHRA is one of 9 winners produced by BEHERA and has become a useful broodmare in her own right. Since retiring from racing she has produced 6 winners to-date including BARADARI, a winner (4 races) under both codes including Grade 3 & Grade 2 handicaps and the 11 time winner (both codes) BARIZAN who’s most notable victory was in the Grade 1 Champion 4yr Old Hurdle (beating CARLITO BRIGANTE by 12 lengths) at the Punchestown Festival.
ESPECIALLY SO’s sire is the legend that is SO YOU THINK. A truly word-class racehorse, taking both the southern and northern hemispheres by storm. He was AUSTRALIAN CHAMPION 3YO COLT in the 2009/10 season and continued his success in Europe being crowned CHAMPION OLDER HORSE IN IRELAND in 2011.
In all he won 10 Group/Grade 1 races in 2 hemispheres, defeating over 75 individual Group 1 winners and was rated 133 by Timeform, making SO YOU THINK the highest-rated Australian colt of the modern age. He now stands at Coolmore for $38,500.
2016 saw SO YOU THINK’s first crop of 2-year-olds and since then he has grown as a stallion. He has now produced 20 Stakes winners including Grade 1 winners D’ARGENTO, INFERENCE, LA DIOSA, NAKEETA JANE and SOPRESSA.
