BUMPERS TO JUMPERS
bumperstojumpers.co.uk was launched on Summer Plate Day at Market Rasen in July 2018. The idea was that after twenty plus years of punting, reasonably successfully, on National Hunt Racing, we wanted to challenge ourselves. We love talking about, writing about and above all watching National Hunt, Point to Point Racing and National Hunt Bloodstock Sales. We have no interest whatsoever in the Flat, we respect it but it’s not us.
So, on this site, we will showcase our wonderful syndicates and our own Bloodstock interests.
We have two major sources for our syndicate horses:
Blyth Park Stud
Based in the north Leicestershire countryside in the Village of Appleby Magna, stud owner Bob Russell has built up an impressive band of broodmares from the best Aga Khan staying stock bloodlines. Most of the top National Hunt Stallions of the day are used by the stud for the mares and at the time of writing nine colt foals have just going through the ring at Tattersall Ireland November National Hunt Sale attracting the attention of the top pin hookers and agents in the game. We will be taking fillies and mares and the odd gelding from the stud to syndicate in small groups of six to ten members. Our association with the stud is such that the very best Fillies and mares will be offered to us. One of the stud top broodmares, Behra, produced our own Especially So in Training at Crewkerne with Kayley Woolacott. Behra Herself, is the Dam of Group one winning Hurdler Barazan and there is a full sister to that Horse by Kalanisi currently in residence at the stud having just turned 3yo
Nestled away in the Lincolnshire countryside, Elusive Bloodstock is run by James and Amelia Gray and is home to top dual-purpose stallion Falco and up and coming National Hunt Stallion Sun Central. James and Amelia have an Impressive band of broodmares and their broodmare Pelican Point has produced our own Elusive Poppy currently in training with Rebecca Menzies at Howe Hills Stable in Sedgefield. We are very excited about our association with farm which we think will produce some very good syndicate horses in the years to come particularly as Falco and Sun Central progeny come to the fore which we are convinced they will.
Peter Hammersley’s pre training yard at Appleby Magna is a huge contributor to our plans going forward.
The majority of our horses are sent here to be broken and pre-trained under Pete’s careful tutelage. The care and attention to detail that goes into this process is completely designed not to over face the horse and not to ask it to do anything before its ready to move on to the next stage. Our commitment to this process is total and with Pete and his staff we have a plan to always get the horses we want into the yard in Dec/January. After the horse is broken at its own pace, it will receive a full education from getting the horse as fit as we can over a 6 month period, to Horse Box education, Schooling over poles and baby Hurdles, all done to bring the horse on in his/her’s own pace so that when the time comes for Rebecca, Kayley or Michael to take the reins so to speak, the horse is the best possible condition to take full training and gives the trainer something to work with from the start.
Pete and his staff are masters of the art and so all our horses have the best possible start when going into training
Bumperstojumpers, through Pete and Paul, will also be acquiring through private purchases and public purchases in the sales ring our own stock to race and to breed from in the coming years either racing in our own name or in partnerships with close and trusted friends
During the spring and summer, we will be at most if not all the Big sales in England and Ireland and reporting back to you on them. Not always looking at expensive top lots but horses we pick from the catalogue to follow through from the sale and which may well fly under the radar.
We really hope you enjoy the site and we promise, through a labour of love for the game, to work as hard as we can.
